One of the most obvious ways organisations can have a positive environmental impact is by reducing their use of paper, both within their organisation and in their dealings with customers and suppliers.

As a provider of online payment and billing solutions, CommSecure uploads in excess of 1.8 million bills for our clients each quarter, processing over 220,00 payments per cycle. We have calculated that our clients are saving more than 1,800 trees per annum by using our solutions rather than posting paper bills.

Whilst this is a positive result, we believe it’s just a drop in the ocean compared to the 120 million paper bills still posted each month in Australia. (Source: Australia Post).

So CommSecure is on a mission!

Just 13,000 bills viewed online instead of printed and posted will save one tree, not to mention the reduction in associated pollution from the paper pulping process and bill delivery.

  • Trees absorb carbon dioxide and manufacture oxygen
  • A single tree will absorb approximately 14.5kg of carbon dioxide each year or one ton during its lifetime
  • They reduce the greenhouse effect and slow the impact of global warming
  • They combat soil erosion and landslides
  • Trees improve water quality by filtering pesticides and unwanted nutrients
  • They help to enrich soil quality by converting nitrogen to nitrates
  • The net cooling effect of a young, healthy tree is equivalent to ten room-size air conditioners operating 20 hours a day

To reduce paper usage, Clean Up Australia recommends that people:

  1. Send emails rather than distributing paper documents
  2. Read emails and newspapers online
  3. Avoid paper plates and cups
  4. Avoid buying goods which use excessive packaging
  5. Put a ‘No Junk Mail’ sign on your letterbox
  6. Minimise printing and use double sided copying where possible
  7. Proofread documents on the screen before printing them

AND, of course, replace paper invoices and bills with digital ones and process them online. Demand your bills online!
